Debate Shifts Voter Interest from Crime to Abortion

Staff Report / nyclocal.org

In the lead-up to this week's presidential debate, crime was the most-searched topic among voters, according to research from New York University in New York, NY. However, during and after the debate, there was a noticeable shift in online search interests. Abortion became the primary focus, as both candidates addressed the issue multiple times. Common queries related to abortion included searches about abortion rights, existing laws by state, and "post-birth abortion." These findings from the NYU Courant Institute highlight a divergence between viewer interests during a debate and the topics emphasized in media coverage.
