As temperatures rise, Sarasota County Emergency Services is reminding residents to take precautions against extreme heat when spending time outdoors. To protect yourself, it is essential to drink plenty of water and stay hydrated throughout the day.

Applying sunscreen regularly helps shield the skin from harmful UV rays. Wearing lightweight, loose-fitting, and light-colored clothing is also recommended as it reflects heat and sunlight, helping to keep the body cool.

For those outdoors, taking breaks in shaded areas can provide relief from intense heat. Additionally, wearing hats can offer extra protection for the face and scalp.
