NYU Launches Course on Yoko Ono's Musical Legacy

Staff Report / nyclocal.org

New York University (NYU) offers a unique course titled "Musical Worlds of Yoko Ono" starting in the spring 2024 semester. The course allows students to delve into Ono's artistic legacy, highlighting her long-standing career prior to her collaboration with John Lennon. Ono, now 91, has been recognized as a significant cultural figure since meeting Lennon in 1966.

Brigid Cohen, a professor in NYU's Department of Music, notes Ono's originality and her influence across various artistic landscapes, including Tokyo, London, and New York.

As part of the course, students participate in field trips, including a visit to Strawberry Fields in Central Park, a memorial dedicated to John Lennon. This site is located across from the Dakota, the building where Ono and Lennon lived and where Lennon was tragically shot in 1980.
