**Winter Storm Brings Snow to Mountain Areas; Lower Valleys See Little Accumulation**
A winter storm that began on Friday, January 3, and lasted through Saturday morning, January 4, brought measurable snow to mountain regions, while lower valleys remained largely unaffected.
### Snowfall Totals:
- **Mountain Areas (Snow Resorts):**
- Trinity Mountain reported the highest snowfall with 6-8 inches.
- Resorts such as Anthony Lakes, Banner Summit, Bogus Basin, Brundage, and Magic Mountain recorded 4-6 inches each.
- Other ski areas, including Mores Creek, Pomerelle, Soldier Mountain, Sun Valley, and Tamarack, saw lighter snow accumulation, ranging from 2-3 inches.
- **Lower Valleys:**
- Several locations, including Boise, Meridian, and Caldwell, recorded no snow accumulation. Other areas such as Twin Falls, Gooding, and Mountain Home also remained snow-free, while Juntura reported only 1 inch.
### Weather Details:
According to the National Weather Service in Boise, Idaho, snow levels dropped significantly overnight, from 7,000 feet to 4,000 feet. Above 6,000 feet, snowfall ranged from 4-8 inches, with up to 2 inches in the mountain valleys. Lower valleys saw little to no accumulation.
### Additional Weather Impacts:
- Liquid precipitation totaled 0.25 to 0.5 inches in mountain areas, with some locations receiving up to 0.75 inches. Valley areas generally experienced less than 0.25 inches of precipitation.
- Post-frontal wind gusts reached up to 40 mph, primarily in the Western Magic Valley, creating gusty conditions overnight.
- The Weiser River at Weiser was reported to crest just below the minor flood stage of 9.5 feet.
Residents traveling to mountain areas should be cautious of snowy conditions, while lower valley residents can expect minimal weather impacts. The storm system has brought a mix of snowfall and wind to the region, with conditions expected to stabilize post-storm.
