Brighton Police Address School Safety Concerns

Staff Report / Brightonlocal.org

Brighton, CO – The Brighton Police Department has released an update regarding a recent fire alarm malfunction at Brighton High School and ongoing social media threats affecting the school community.

On the day of the incident, the fire alarm was triggered automatically by an internal switch, not through manual activation. There have been no arrests related to the incident, and no weapons have been found at or near Brighton schools since the threats began on Tuesday. However, an unrelated traffic arrest occurred near Brighton High School during the same timeframe.

Authorities are actively investigating the social media posts that have caused concern and are working to identify those responsible for them. The department emphasized that false reporting of school threats is a criminal offense in Colorado and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

To enhance safety, the Brighton Police Department, in collaboration with 27J Schools, has placed at least one School Resource Officer at each high school and middle school and has increased patrols in the area.

The police acknowledge the unsettling nature of these threats, which are also a concern for other schools and districts across Colorado and the nation. They encourage community members to report any suspicious activity through their dispatch line at 303-288-1535 or via Safe2Tell. For inquiries regarding school operations, families should contact 27J Schools at 303-655-2954.

The safety and well-being of the Brighton community remain the top priority of the police department, which pledges to respond promptly to any threats and provide updates to the public.
