Teacher Arrested for Alleged Assault on Student

Greeley, Colorado – On August 30, 2024, a 6-year-old student at Maplewood Elementary School was allegedly assaulted by a teacher, Joshua David Wainscott, 40. The school is located at 1201 21st Avenue. Greeley School Resource Officers were notified of the incident by Greeley-Evans School District 6 Administrators and District 6 Security.

Once informed of the allegations, Greeley Police Department initiated a criminal investigation and were informed by the school district that Wainscott had been placed on administrative leave.

On September 12, 2024, Greeley Police arrested Wainscott. He was booked at the Weld County Jail on several charges, including 2nd Degree Assault–Strangulation, classified as a Class 4 Felony, and Child Abuse, a Class 3 Misdemeanor.

The identity of the juvenile victim will not be released. Questions regarding Wainscott's employment should be directed to Greeley-Evans School District 6. Anyone with additional information about the case is encouraged to contact School Resource Officer Diaz at (970) 350-9605.

The police department stated that any charges are merely accusations, and all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
