2024 National Book Awards Finalists Announced Today

The National Book Awards has announced its 2024 finalists, showcasing the year's best writing across five categories: fiction, nonfiction, poetry, books in translation, and young people's fiction. A total of 25 titles were selected from 1,900 submissions by publishers. The winner for each category will be revealed at a ceremony scheduled for November 20.

Among the finalists are "Knife" by M.S. Redd Cheries, "Meditations After an Attempted Murder" by Salman Rushdie, and "My Friends" by Hisham Matar, a Pulitzer Prize-winning author. Other notable entries include "Unshrinking: How to Face Fatphobia" by Kate Manne, "The Book: Censor’s Library" by Emily Bingham, and "Buffalo Dreamer" by Violet Duncan.

The finalists also feature "Taiwan Travelogue" by Yáng Shuàng-zǐ, translated by Lin King, and "Kareem Between" by Shifa Saltagi Safadi. All 2024 finalists are available for borrowing at the New York Public Library for members with a library card.
