Celebrating Haitian American Contributions at Little Haiti Station

Newkirk Avenue - Little Haiti Station, which serves the 2 and 5 subway lines, is located in an area that celebrates Haitian American contributions. Marie Lily Cerat, Director of the CUNY Haitian Studies Institute, highlighted the importance of challenging negative narratives surrounding the Haitian American community.
She emphasized the need to actively promote awareness of Haitian American history and culture. Cerat stated that defending against attacks on the community is crucial, as is acknowledging the ongoing contributions of Haitian Americans to society. She affirmed that the rights to freedom, security, and happiness apply to everyone, including the Haitian American community. This message was featured in a report by PIX 12 and the BK Reader.
