"Paws at the Park" Promotes Pet Activities
Staff Report / apexlocal.org
Wake County is launching an initiative called "Paws at the Park," designed to promote outdoor activities with pets and raise awareness about animals available for adoption. This program is a collaboration between Wake County Parks, Recreation and Open Space, and the Wake County Animal Center.
Participants can obtain a "pawsport" at various participating parks or the Animal Center. By visiting four parks with their pets and submitting a photo of their completed pawsport, owners will have a chance to win a prize for both themselves and their pets. Full details and the option to download the pawsport can be found at wake.gov/PawsAtThePark.
The parks included in the program are:
- American Tobacco Trail
- Blue Jay Point County Park
- Crowder County Park
- Green Hills County Park
- Harris Lake County Park
- Historic Oak View County Park
- Lake Crabtree County Park
- Robertson Millpond Preserve
- Sandy Pines Preserve
- Turnipseed Nature Preserve
It should be noted that Historic Yates Mill County Park does not allow pets because it is designated as a native wildlife refuge. Participants are encouraged to share their experiences on social media using the hashtag #WakePawsAtThePark.
