**Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Reports Officer-Involved Shooting**

On the morning of the incident, Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters and Chief of Investigations Alan Parker provided details about an officer-involved shooting.

The suspect, an 18-year-old male named Cerry Banks, was previously engaged in an inappropriate texting relationship with a 13-year-old female. The girl's mother discovered this relationship and communicated with the suspect through the girl’s phone. To confront him, she arranged a meeting at Popeyes on McDuff Avenue, bringing her children with her.

Upon arrival, the mother was confronted by Banks, who was armed. He reportedly threatened her, saying, “When you hear the shots tonight, you know what’s up.” The mother then entered the restaurant with her children and contacted the sheriff’s office about the aggravated assault.

When deputies arrived, Banks remained near the business despite opportunities to leave. An officer recognized him and issued multiple commands for Banks to show his hands. Instead, Banks fled behind the business and, as the officer followed, he observed Banks pull a pistol from his waistband. The officer commanded Banks to stop and drop the weapon and subsequently fired multiple shots at him.

Banks continued to flee and discarded the gun. After losing sight of him, the officer and other responding officers established a perimeter. With the assistance of a K-9 unit, Banks was apprehended without further incident.

Banks was transported to a local hospital for treatment and is currently in stable condition. This event marks the seventh officer-involved shooting for the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office this year. The involved officer has been identified as Robinson, who has seven years of service.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office plans to release body-worn camera footage and additional details regarding the case in a Critical Incident Briefing within 21 days, adhering to their commitment to transparency.
