Jacksonville Man Charged with Murdering 44-Year-Old

**Jacksonville Man Arrested for Murder**

Jacksonville, FL – Lavertis Reed, 20, has been arrested and charged with the murder of 44-year-old Travis Gettis. The incident occurred on November 6, 2024, just before midnight, at the intersection of New Kings Road and Edgewood Avenue.

According to reports from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO), officers arrived at the scene and found Gettis suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Homicide detectives found evidence that linked Reed to the crime. They identified a suspect vehicle registered to him and, with the assistance of the CPR and Gang Units, along with the Aviation Unit, located Reed at a shopping center on Dunn Avenue. He was detained approximately 16 hours after the shooting.

Following an interview with detectives, Reed was charged with murder and booked into jail. The investigation into Travis Gettis’ death is ongoing.
