**Scottsdale Police Department Addresses Recent School Threats**
Scottsdale, Arizona (September 16, 2024) – The Scottsdale Police Department has reported an increase in threats of violence on school campuses through social media. Within the past week, schools and law enforcement agencies throughout the state have received numerous reports of possible threats. Specifically, over one hundred threats have been documented in the Phoenix metropolitan area and Tucson.
Local police investigators are collaborating with School Resource Officers and the Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD) staff to manage these situations. The Arizona Counter Terrorism Information Center (ACTIC) is currently working on consolidating information about these threats. Many of the threats reportedly utilize similar language and images, while simply changing the names of the schools affected.
These threats have raised concerns among students and faculty, disrupting educational activities and diverting law enforcement's attention. Despite the uptick in reports, no valid threats have been confirmed at SUSD schools for the current school year. Authorities note that many threats have origins outside the Scottsdale area and Arizona.
The Scottsdale Police Department emphasizes the importance of safety within the community. They encourage anyone who encounters a social media threat to report it directly to law enforcement or school officials, rather than sharing it further, as this can lead to delays in response. Those responsible for making such threats may face arrest and prosecution.
For emergencies, the public is urged to call 911. Non-emergency inquiries can be directed to the Scottsdale Police Department at 480-312-5000.
