Tucson Police Promote Reporting, Not Reposting Threats

Staff Report / Tucsonlocal.org

The Tucson Police Department emphasizes the importance of safety in schools and encourages community involvement in reporting potential threats. Residents are urged to follow specific steps if they encounter violent or threatening online posts:

1. Take a screenshot of the threatening content.

2. Show the screenshot to a responsible adult immediately.

3. Avoid reposting the content, as this can spread misinformation and incite fear.

This guidance is part of a broader effort to ensure the safety of students and school staff in southern Arizona. Law enforcement agencies are collaborating to address threats, but community input is vital.

Parents and school staff are advised to discuss the risks associated with creating or sharing threats of violence with children. Such actions can lead to serious consequences, including criminal charges and expulsion from school.

For urgent threats, community members are reminded to contact authorities by calling 9-1-1.
